Busy old fool, unruly Sun,
Why dost thou thus,
Through windows and through curtains call on us?
Must to thy motions lovers' seasons run?
Saucy pedantic wretch, go chide
Late schoolboys and sour 'prentices,
Go tell court huntsmen that the King will ride,
Call country ants to harvest offices;
Love, all alike, no season knows, nor clime,
Nor hours, days, months, which are the rags of time.
From The Sunne Rising by John Donne (1572 - 1631)
Prospect Cottage, former home of filmmaker Derek Jarman sits proudly in the surreal landscape of Dungeness. On one wall ( image below) part of the John Donne poem 'The Sunne Rising' is emblazoned and the whole cottage and open gardens are immaculate. Dungeness B nuclear power station sits behind it, a long term question mark on the landscape.
